The European Union will invest €42 million in rehabilitating 355km of Somalia’s roads.

The European project is part of the larger ‘Regional Corridors’ program and comes after the Somali Prime Minister in February inaugurated a $200 million highway project funded by Qatar, which will connect the Port of Mogadishu with the agricultural towns of Jowhar and Afgoye.

The country before the civil-strife had managed to construct a respectable 22 thousand km road network with the assistance of China that neatly connected the major ports of the coast with the agricultural zones and inland cities of the countryside.

The two new projects signal a major push to revitalize Somalia’s infrastructure and boost mobility across the country.
